Should I keep a car after it is repaired from Severe Accident?

I always avoid buying a car with a history of accidents, especially a severe accident, but I recently had a car in a severe accident and instead of totaling the car, insurance company is having it repaired. Since in my mind it is not consistent to refuse to buy a car that was in a severe accident and keeping one I already owned that was repaired from a severe accident, is it ever a good idea to keep such a vehicle? I am biased because I especially like it (2016 Explorer with all the options and very low mileage) and have no hope of finding a similar one in this market for a sane price, but can you really trust the repairs?

What was damaged?

What is it costing to fix?

Depends who does the repairs.  I would have it inspected after the repair by an independent shop to see if it was done correctly.  It would be worth the money to me.

What exactly was damaged in the accident? Is the chassis damaged? Did the vehicle roll over? Did the airbags pop?

If the monocoque was bent/damaged, I’d be real leery about the repair.

However, if we’re talking just superficial damage (fenders, hood, bumpers, other bolt in parts) I’d have no problem with the repair (provided it was done correctly by professionals).
