I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT, 3.0L with automatic transmission that cranks but will not start. It does have spark and fuel but NO compression at cylinders 2 and 3.
I bought the truck from a dealer a couple of years ago for my son for when he got his license. We worked on the truck together and made several improvements. (New carpet, new exhaust, new shocks, new upper/lower steering controls, brakes&cylinders, front/rear bearings, and more.)
The engine failure is a surprise. What's next? Transmission?
Hence my question: Do I pay my mechanic for repairs, or get rid of the truck?

Really depends on the body condition too, but I would lean toward retiring it. But price it out, might be worth it.
