Scotty,
I've got a used automatic 2004 Toyota corolla with 190,000 miles on it. The serpentine belt and the engine got burned from overheating. Coolant was leaking from the overheating and the engine was smoking. I took it to a local mechanic and he said there wasn't much he could do. Should I rebuild the engine or sell the car for scrap metal?

Neither, If the transmission is good and the car is not a rust bucket, find a good used engine from a junkyard and swap it.
