Why do I get codes?

So I’m working on a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a 3.0L V6 engine, an automatic transmission and 69,524 miles. Yesterday it had the P0340 engine code and a P0403. Today I put in a new EGR vacuum solenoid and the P0403 code went away but now I have a possible P0401 code. I can’t even find anything on the internet about a camshaft position sensor for this vehicle so I have no idea what’s causing that code. I’d greatly appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Well, if you have a distributor, the sensor is built into the distributor. Realizes those Mitsubishi's age, though they often become electronic nightmares as the wiring system gets screwed up either power or ground, and sometimes they drive codes that don't really mean anything other than the wiring somewhat worn

See possible causes for P0401 here:

If there is no cam sensor the P0340 might be a spurious code being thrown by your PCM (sometimes a fault will cause unrelated codes), or Mitsubishi may have repurposed the code for something else. I've had that code on my own car which has no cam sensor and it turned out the manufacturer reassigned the code to something else.
