Soaking wet carpet

Hey Scotty. The front floor under the mats on my wife’s 2018 GMC Terrain is soaking wet. On both sides. Had a mechanic look at it. He couldn’t figure it out. The seals are all good and it’s not the air conditioner being clogged and overflowing. He recommended taking it to a dealership. I don’t want to get ripped off. Any idea what it could be?

check obvious points of entry first like steering shaft boots as well as any body plugs.. next start the car and set the hvac to full blast on recirculation function and spray foam ping glass cleaner in all seals windows and windshield and door seals and so on and look for bubbles. When the cab is pressurized where the air comes out the most could likely be the way water gets in

no, you don't want recirculation

If it’s not in recirculate the cab will not pressurize due to being open? I’ve done this for years always using recirculate

how can it pressurize if it's just sucking air that's already in the cabin?

Every other mode sucks air from outside and forces it into the cabin, pressurizing it. But you need to block the exit vents first (can be hard to find). Or just use an air compressor.

Does it have a sunroof?

My neighbor had a problem like that with her Equinox and it turned out to be the drainage system for the sunroof.

If its clear clean water its the AC, if its dirty water its coming from the outside, if its a colored liquid the its a liquid used on the car.

Things to check:

Sunroof if you have one

door seals

door drain

AC drain pipe

It could also be a leaking heater core.  Check you coolant overflow tank to see if it's lower.
