Dear Scotty,
just purchased a 2013 Acura TL with 140K at a reasonable price. Its records show that it was maintained well, ie timing belt and water pump changed at 100K, transmission fluid changed every 50K. I was proud of myself for bringing my Innova 5160rs scantool, found only the long term fuel trim about – 4 or 5, so I’ll try a fuel cleaner. My question is about spark knock, I understood I could use regular gas with just a little less power. I though hear a spark knock at light to moderate acceleration. I have enough car experience to know it’s not cam, rod noise or other noises. Do I really need premium gas? Or could the knock sensor be bad? I read it’s a bear to change. The car has no codes or IMs not ready
Thanks very much!
Bob
Ignition timing could be a little too far advanced. Timing belt may have stretched.
