Sport car advice?

Hi Scotty,

Big fan of yours. I got a question. My lease is almost up on 2022 Nissan Altima. Thinking since I’m 39 and still single that I would finally like a car the gives me some excitement. Thinking of either Mazda Miata, Toyota 86, and or a Ford Mustang Ecoboost. What do you think is the best option in terms of reliability and ease of doing my own maintenance? What sporty car won’t break my wallet during ownership?

Keep up with the great work,

Ryan

IMHO Both the Miata and the Toyota/Subaru 86 are quite reliable, but if you have only one car, the scant luggage capacity would detract from the Miata. The other problem with the Miata is that though they are a delight when the weather is nice, most folks drive it with the top up 80% or more of the time, and then it is kind of claustrophobic and noisy. Test drive both, the Miata with the top up.

Toyota GR86

.

But, please watch this video first to learn about the pros and cons of the GR86 from a former owner Savageese (well known YouTuber car enthusiasts):

Ok that video turned me off on Toyota idea. Too involved! Not liking the fact it has a Subaru engine. Not going to do track, just want fun driving one my hour commutes back and forth to work, maybe some errands here and there. This won’t be my only car. Also own a Toyota RAV4 which is mainly my dad’s car. So now the choices are either Miata or Mustang Ecoboost.

Pass on the EcoBoost Mustangs. After 2017, they switched from a ZF-based transmission to the joint GM-Ford 10-speed automatic transmission. That was a disaster. They've had numerous recalls regarding that transmission.

Oh damn I see that! I just googled it.
What do you think I should test drive?

Anything but the Mustang, and I'm obviously a Mustang guy, lol.

Yes I see that lol

I’m surprised my uncle didn’t tell me about the recall, and he was an engineer at ford.

Miata and the Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ.

If it were a two door, I’d also recommend the Acura Integra Type S. Type S specifically. But it only comes in 4 door.

What about a Lexus RC350?

Know what maybe on the RC350! Growing on me actually! Thanks for that idea. I’m seeing those by me for $28k used.
