I HAVE A 1956 FORD FAIRLANE 292 ENGINE STALLS OUT AFTER FULL ACCELERATION WHEN YOU LET THE PEDDLE UP OTHER THEN THAT ENGINE RUNS FINE THERE IS ONLY A PROBLE AFTER TAKING YOUR FOOT OF THE GAS PEDEL . ENGINE SHUTS OFF BUT CAN BE RESTARTED WITH THE TURN OF THE IGNITION FIRES UP RIGHT AWAY .GOOD CAP GOOD ROTOR GOOD PLUGS GOOD PLUG WIRES HAVE NOT CHECKED THE COIL OR POINTS OR CONDENSER WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ? CAR DRIVES FINE ALL DAY LONG PROBLEM ONLY AFTER PEDEL TO THE METAL AND RELEASING .
Do not post in ALL CAPS please and thank you.
Check your points for corrosion, burning and the correct gap. Replace the fuel filter and air filter.
I don't think a '56 model would have a dashpot that slows return to idle (that was more of a 1970s emissions band-aid), but if it does have one or is supposed to that's worth checking. Sounds though like time for a carb rebuild, paying particular attention to wear in the carb body where the throttle plate shaft rotates. That can cause air leaks, and bushings can be installed if needed to fix the problem.
