So here is my issue. I have a 2011 Toyota Rav4 with around 145k miles.
In the last few months, I’ve noticed a strange noise coming from the middle to rear part of the vehicle when I am backing up. Part of the time it sounds like a squeaking noise and the other part it sounds like a low dull grinding or rubbing noise.
I’ve had the brakes/rotors checked and the transmission fluid serviced and changed.
The guy asked if I had it serviced before and I said not since I’ve had it (which was at the 70k mark and around 4-5 years ago) and said it just seemed a little low but not bad.
I’m wondering what could this random noise be and what are some things I can check or have checked?
I’m just worried if it would be something major.
Thank you in advance for all the help!
Can you please make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here?
It uploaded as a “Short” so I apologize that there is no slider to navigate the video.
Not too long after I set the phone down you can hear the noise https://youtube.com/shorts/RfHOuvt-LKM?feature=share
I'm going to film a better video recording hopefully.
No worries.
Sounds suspension related, but verify the culprit using this technique -
Is it All Wheel Drive?
@carlos Yes it is all-wheel drive
You will want to have the drive shaft checked (but the mechanic likely did that), and change the fluid in that rear differential as well.
They usually don't cause problems, but do add the the possible sources of noises.
Did you run over a cat? {pear}:laughingoutloud:
