Subaru Ascent vs Mitsubishi Outlander

My brother is looking at getting a new car since his last one was totaled in a crash (2017 Mitsubishi Outlander SE AWD). He is considering getting another Outlander, but wanted him to consider the Subaru Ascent since they supposedly fixed the reliability issues in the newer models. I saw scotty reviewed a Outlander, but no Ascent yet.

Based on reliability, which one should he get? 2024 Subaru Ascent Premium or 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander SE AWD?

Thanks

2024 Subaru Ascent Premium

Hi, you're welcome to see previous threads involving the Subaru Ascent.

Although quality might have somewhat improved, generally it's not known for being overly well built.

The new Outlander is not a Mitsubishi - in fact the new generation is based on the Nissan Rogue.

Both are based on the same Renault-Nissan CMF-C/D platform and uses the same engine as the Canadian Rogue does (Nissan PR25DD)

Based on reliability, which one should he get?

I'd recommending looking elsewhere, it's probably best to get a different car.

Between those two the Outlander is better, but they're still not great by any stretch of the imagination...

It's worth stating that the Outlander and Ascent are differently sized cars,

the Ascent is almost a foot longer, it's also wider and significantly higher.

If you need the extra seating, The Subaru Ascent premium is almost as much as a Toyota Highlander hybrid - perhaps consider that option instead.

If you don't need the extra seats, it's best to just get a RAV4 hybrid.
