Which new SUV should I buy

Hello Scotty,

I'm currently in the process of considering an SUV purchase. Specifically, I've been looking at the 2023 Toyota Rav4 XLE and the 2023 Mazda CX-5. I had the opportunity to test drive both models, and I'm quite impressed with them based on my personal preferences. Additionally, I'm also considering the 2023 Nissan Rogue and the 2023 Kia Sportage LX, both of which are offered at varying price points.

My budget is ideally under $35,000, and I'm aiming to find a balance between price, reliability, and potential resale value. Considering your expertise, could you please provide your professional opinion on which option would be the best fit for my criteria?

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely, Mari Soto

Oh, go for the Toyota RAV4.  It’s not even a contest.

Either Rav4 or Mazda CX-5. And definitely steer clear from Kia or Rogue. Also keep in mind that during normal times cars are meant to depreciate over time, but Toyota is known for keeping its value compared to other brands.

Thank you!

2023 Nissan Rogue

The Nissan Rouge is a bit of a Joke.

The Renualt-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance seems to be incapable of developing a petrol engine.

Their previous attempts have been laughable (the small 4 cylinder engines blow up constantly)

These 1.5L Turbo charged direct injected little piles of crap and a mess, AVOID it.

And this is without even going into the CVT issues on these.

2023 Kia Sportage LX

The only engine they offer in these a gasoline direct injected (GDi) one.

Kia doesn't have a particularly good reputation with crafting GDi engines.

As beautiful, inexpensive, and smooth as it is, AVOID it.

2023 Mazda CX-5

Naturally aspirated Mazdas are fine.

Personally I find the gauge cluster to be very outdated,

The infotainment is screen probably one of the worst fitted to a 2023 model year,

And the Standard AWD can add costs.

Although overall, it is a fine car.

2023 Toyota Rav4 XLE

Well, it is the gold standard of midsize SUVs.

They're decently reliable, although the 8 speed automatic hasn't been the greatest on other models.

I think it is the way to go.

under $35,000

Consider also the Toyota Venza LE.
