Hi, had an oil change on a 2015 Jeep Patriot done using synthetic oil approximately 4500 miles ago (5 months) The "change oil" light just came on. I checked the oil and the level and color looks good
I understand that synthetic oil can go 7000 miles before a change.
Does the "change oil" light come on after X number of miles OR does it actually monitor the properties of the oil ?
Scotty recommends changing engine oil every 5000 miles in modern engines, for best longevity of your engine.
1 year/5k miles, whichever comes first
Whenever your car needs an oil change, it will tell you when you reach a certain amount of miles.
I use full synthetic in my '16 Pony, & will change oil when the "change oil" light comes on. Yeah, it may be 4,000 miles this time, then a little over 5,000 miles the next time. You're certainly not gonna hurt anything if you have a few thousand miles over the "recommended" change interval, but your vehicle is pretty good at monitoring how you drive & in what conditions, where at what point it thinks you need to change it.
Oil is cheap, engines are not! If she wants new oil, give 'er what she needs! You'll both be happy! 🙂
