btw, the thing I noticed about the Mercedes plant in Alabama is how spotlessly clean and incredibly organized everything is, down to the slightest detail. Everything in the place is defined as to the purpose for it being there, and there is a place for everything.
If they used toothpicks in the assembly process, there would be a place to store that toothpick in the assembly area, it would have a painted outline around the toothpick, and a little sign that announced "Toothpick".
In 2007 I was in a Chrysler transmission assembly plant for 4 weeks (Kokomo, IN), and it was just sloppy and dirty. The moment you walked in the place your impression was of disorganization and decay.
