[Closed] Thoughts on 2025 Ram Charger?

Do you guys think this is the answer to EVs and range for the time being? 145-150 miles of range purely plug in then another 540 approximately from the gasoline 3.6L V6 range extender

also what do y’all think the price will be like? I imagine more than the Ram revolution base but less than the Ram Revolution extended range. Thoughts?

I think that’s a smart approach and makes sense.  That being said, it’s not technically a pure EV.

.

The being said, I wouldn’t buy anything from the Big Three these days.

Yea it’s defineilty a plug in hybrid being marketed as an EV

From what I read months ago the 3.6L V6 used in the challengers and other cars is one of the most reliable engines Chrysler has made so as long as it doesn’t have electrical issues which some Rams have like 2017s I asssume the truck will be pretty bulletproof and I say that as a non-Chrysler person

I'll believe it when I see them on the actual road, and see some real independent numbers start coming in. I also want to see the bill for replacing the batteries.

Also I'm wondering how long all the bearings on the electric motors last. You don't change the oil on an EV vehicles, so how are they being lubricated?  Is there gear oil that needs to be changed out?

The actual battery is much smaller than a Tesla cybertruck’s or Mach E because it only stores 150 Miles which is why it needs the engine to constantly refeed it as you drive

I think it’ll be like half the cost of other brands

Two big strikes against it:

1. It's made by Stellantis

2. It's electric

As it stands today it is not really possible to do "electric right". Way too many drawbacks which Scotty has frequently discussed in his videos.

For towing, a diesel is still probably best. But compared to full electric, a hybrid is potentially the better option given the current technology.

With that said, Stellantis isn’t really known for their hybrid or electric technology. I have more faith in Toyota’s new hybrid max technology than Stellantis plug in technology. (Toyota is known for their hybrid synergy drive, their hybrid max technology is relatively new.)

The towing is purely EV Tho the V6 simply works as a generator for the battery… the truck doesn’t even have a transmission

I looked at Toyota’s upcoming Tacoma but it’s probably only gonna get like 2-3 mpg better then the ICE

Oh that’s interesting. I thought it had mechanical power too, not just to generate electricity.

It would be interesting to se show it works in real life!

It says that it has an estimated range of 690 miles and a towing capacity rated at 14000 lbs. Granted, regardless of what you're towing, the range will decrease no matter what. Let's see how long the range will last when you are towing that much.

Is there gear oil that needs to be changed out?

I don't know if this is applied to electric vehicles, but there are fluids available to keep the batteries cool and to make the electric motor components last longer.

My 2 cents. Anything is possible, but has Stellantis built many reliable combustion engine vehicles in recent years?

They can build vehicles that sell pretty well, look good, go fast, work great off-road, but so far, not very reliable ones, at least since the days of slant sixes.

Stellantis also doesn't have, to my knowledge, any significant knowledge base building EVs, a new and evolving industry. Are they going to poach EV-knowledgeable engineers and production people from Tesla, Ford or one of the less successful EV companies like Rivian or Lucid? Or put the folks who designed the electric version of the Fiat 500 on the task?

Anybody buying many of this generation of EVs, especially EV trucks, is pretty much a "beta-tester", they are financing the testing and development of EVs with their dollars and patience. Meanwhile the manufacturers take their money and then sort out what works and what fails.

The Ramcharger has 8 lug wheels so it’s obviously going to be best in class for towing at 14,000lbs capacity

How far do you think you'll be able to tow 14,000 pounds running on batteries? Buy one and let us know.

Pontiac offered 8-lug wheels on their cars in the 1960s. Does that mean that those were obviously best in class for towing heavy loads?

It doesn’t have a transmission which I hear is Rams weak point

just curious on the community’s thoughts.. is this an EV done right?

You asked this question back in November. Please read the forum rules. You won't be warned again. Thanks.

Never mind. Chuck did remind you before and you ignored him, so ... goodbye. Topic closed.

If you want to tow loads with it, especially when it is cold, you might need to put a diesel generator on the cargo bed to recharge your EV while driving.

does it even allow you to charge while driving?

The whole “EVs are trash when it’s winter” argument is dumb to me I live in Texas I might have to worry about freezing temperatures 3-5 days out of the entire year
