I'm 17 and looking for a sporty reliable first car. I've been doing my research for about 2 years now and I've got my sights set on a 7th gen toyota celica GT-S. They're only around 3 - 4 grand here in Alberta, Canada and it seems like a steal for such a reliable and handsome car (private purchase of course). For extra context, I've been accepted into post secondary so I will be a fully trained mechanic in the future so I'm not too concerned in terms of maintenance. I'm also planning on souping it up, of course. Everyone needs to have a little fun every once in a while 😀ย
Rust is your biggest enemy on these things at this point in time. Check it out to make sure anything important underneath especially the points where suspension components mount to the car are in good, safe shape. The 1zz-fe engine has a history of being an oil burner so make sure it doesn't leave clouds of oil behind it under hard acceleration. The 2zz-ge has some weird issues that I can't recall but if it's working properly and you take care of it, it's a fun engine.
