Are tire plugs a safe fix?

When having a tire plugged from a flat, are they safe to use for the long term?

If a front flat is plugged, would it be a safe idea to rote that tire to the rear?

IMO a well-installed plug is absolutely safe, and can be used at the front.

I've seen people drive on plugs for the lifetime of the tire. However, I would still get it patched properly, because it costs next to nothing and ... why mess around with tires?

Patches are best (air pressure pushing out helps keep it sealed) but I like to run a plug then put a patch behind it.

This way you have a redundant system to prevent failure.

I've only bought one new set of tires in my life & when dealing with used ones chances are there may have been an earlier repair or it got a little puncture with a slow leak on an otherwise excellent tire. When I'm inspecting them before I leave I make sure that new stems & any req'd sealing is done. I'm on a fixed income so $70/four still hurts bur it's MUCH better than almost $200 each for something that will inevitably need a patch due to poor cleaning of city roads only once a year

Is it safe for a car tire to have more than one plug or is it dangerous?

It is safe to have a reasonable number thereof 🙂 I think I had like 5 plugs in one unlucky tire, which lasted 8 years or so, and got ditched due to normal wear.

Yes, I prefer pataches as they are better and safer in my opinion. However, many "Flat-Fix" Tire Places either don't do patches or simply they'll argue to the teeth that one doesn't need them. Try getting around that when one is in a hurry and it's only $5 to $10 to get it done. For piece of mind, I just rotate the front plugged tire to the back.
