I have an Astro work van. Tire size called for 215 70 r 16
Friend has almost new set of 235 65 r 16 of of his vehicle. hat was totaled.
so sidewalls slightly taller, by a couple mms. would it be a problem using them. ?
As long as there is sufficient clearance and the load capacity on the tires is appropriate you should be OK. Your speedometer will probably read a bit slower than actual speed if the tires are a little larger.
height difference is negligible, but they are a fair bit wider so you may run into rubbing issues in sharp turns, and extra debris getting slung up against the body. The added weight could make the van more sluggish, and width could also affect handling (since you're keeping the narrower rims).
Tire rack lists 265-65-16 as an optional tire size for the Astro Van.
You can compare the 2 sizes here,. they're slightly wider, but almost the same otherwise.

265/65 are enormous tires. They were never an option on these vans. They are 2 inches wider than stock. The sliding door would hit them.
I did say that they were WIDER !!!! And All I said is that it's listed as an option per TIRE RACK! @mountainjoe, don't you read or just like jumping to conclusions.
yes I read, and I shared what I know. No drama lama. 🙂
just as a little help,
10 MM is roughly .42 of an inch. 20, the difference between 215, and 235 is about 8 tenths of an inch. your tires would be 4/10th of an inch wider on both sides. That may [operative word "may"] make them rub against some thing, especially in the front.
I am not a mechanic so it might be best to check with a tire store.
Good Luck
10 mm is .3937 inches.
OK .39, close enough. I just know that my .40 S&W is close to 10 MM
