Hey Scotty. I'm looking at a 1987 Toyota pickup with 184,000 miles. It has an automatic transmission and independent front suspension. I was wondering if you think this is a good investment for a daily driver. I need a pickup truck to pull some lawn mowing equipment. My 2017 Toyota Corolla was totaled last week by someone who rear-ended me while looking at their phone while I was at a stoplight. I'm trying to still get decent gas mileage and the reliability that old school trucks used to have. Do you think this is a good buy and what are some things to look out for before purchasing it?
Here is a link to the 1987 Toyota pickup. It is a private seller and he is trying to sell them together. I am interested in the red one because I need the extra cab due to being 6' 4" and this not being a big full-sized truck. I have a bunch more pictures he sent me and a video of it running. I just don't know how to attach them.
Not buy.
Buying a 35 year old truck as a daily isnt a good idea, doesn't matter make/ model. Oldest car i'd personally go for would be a 96 because of OBDII, unless its a toy.
I'd go for a late 90's /early 2000's taco if you like toyotas, frontiers are solid, or even a ranger/S10. Also if you're looking for reliability, get a standard. A small truck will be easy to learn on if you dont already know how to. I learned how to drive stick by just buying a manual car.
