I have installed a 2001 auto transmission, 4-speed. Do transmission and diferencial take the same atf or diferencial oil or fluid is different than transmission?

Thanks

look in your owner's manual to see the specific fluids your car needs.

Here's what the owner's manual says on page 232:

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE
Automatic transmission
Fluid capacity (drain and refill), L (qt.,
Imp. qt.):
Four−speed type
Up to 3.1(3.3,2.7)
Three−speed type
2.5(2.6,2.2)
Fluid type:
Automatic transmission fluid D−ll or
DEXRONIII (DEXRON

Differential (three−speed type only)
Fluid capacity L (qt., Imp. qt.):
1.4(1.5,1.2)
Fluid type:
Automatic transmission fluid D−II or
DEXRONIII (DEXRONII)

So the differential is separate only on the 3 speed automatic - download the Owner's Manual at:

Automatic transmission fluid and differential hypoid gear oil are two, completely things.

But in a FWD transaxle the trans and diff usually (but not always) share the same lubricant.

@chucktobias - sometimes.

In some old British cars the engine, automatic transmission, and differential all share the same engine oil. (Trans and diff live in the engine sump.)

@chucktobias - Which is the reason I don't own anything made by the British. Especially if it's electronic (Lucas - Prince of Darkness).
