Hello everyone,
So I've got a 1987 Buick Park avenue it has 168k miles on it. It's got the series 1 3800 6 cylinder. I haven't been driving for a while. it runs great except that it does die but it's not dying the same time frame every time. So I'm just wondering if it smells like gas in my oil but it's not milky what would cause that to happen? I did have my dad teach my son how to put spark plugs in & it's smelled like gas ever since, would that be why? My brother said if I drive it that it'll just burn it off, but I currently can't do that. Also I just saw that my passenger side front axle is leaking this this dark gray/green goo so I'm guessing that my axle is shot 🙁 What would make my axle go out? I just did the rack & pinion & tie rode's so I'm not sure why that would happen? Any advice I can get I'd very much appreciate!!! 🙂 /p>
I have more info about the car under my profile. But if you need to know any other info just let me know, thank you!!! 🙂 /p>
Sincerely, Jeanette
If you smell gas in the oil then there's unburned gas getting into the oil either due to leaky fuel injectors or misfires - possibly relating to the engine dying at random. (I believe that car is fuel injected. If it has a carb then it would be the carb leaking gas into the oil.) The gas won't just burn off. The source of the excess gas needs to be found and fixed.
As far as your front axle, being 35 years old with a loose or deteriorated boot would certainly cause it to leak out its lubricant.
A car that old in any kind of regular use is going to need frequent repairs as its decades-old parts fail.
