Hey Scotty!

I got a toyota Corolla lift back 1,6 engine with a automatic transmission from 2002, it has only gone 87000 miles but it is burning a lot of oil. what is wrong with it?

Unfortunately 1998-2002 Corolla’s with I4 engine had excessive oil consumption.

Typical, that generation drank oil like mad.

Step 1 - Any leaks? Step 2 - Do a compression test on all 4 cylinders, record numbers Step 3 - Re-do the compression test with an ounce of oil (a wet compression test). Post the numbers here. If there's a big difference, it's the rings that are worn out. If there's not much difference, it's you valve guides/seals. Neither is a cheap fix, but the valves are less brutally expensive.

Scotty has a video on compression checks  https://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en&client=mv-google&rl=yes&v=ovvXnd7AhiU
