Topic starter

2008 Toyota Corolla 250k miles automatic

p0171, p0101,p0102,p0113

changed the mas sensor , did the cigar smoke test to find vacuum leaks ( none found) sprayed cleaner , around hoses and intake manifold, still no changes in idle. Cleaned the throttle as best as I could without taking it out

the problem : the car dies at idle sometimes. Would idle fine and starts to drop real low where the car shakes and than it dies. Please help

That's coming up there in miles, good on you to keep it going for this long. Has the car been worked on recently? p0113 is a code for your IAT. Maybe you added some coolant recently but forgot to burp the lines. The big intake boot on that car starts to go at that mileage, it may not be so apparent if the crack is in a crevice on the underside.

@itaintright
Last “major” thing was a new alternator. But normal maintenance.. oil change , air filter. But coolant level looks fine .. but I’ll double check it anyways

@itaintright
And I’ll double check the intake boot .. I pulled it off but didn’t notice any thing unusual

It's worth taking a second look, that part will take a lot of vibrations over time since one end is mounted to the frame and the other is mounted to the throttle body. The boot is large enough to where you can go into a dark room (like a bathroom or closet) and stick a cellphone flashlight inside of it. If you see light peaking through the crevices it is time to replace. Find a reputable manufacturer for the replacement, there are some cheapo chinese/east asian boots that will barely hold for 1k miles and go for about half the price.

Have you checked the wiring to all the sensors especially the MAF & IAT?

@inthrustwetrust
No I did not

Perhaps intake manifold gasket is leaking. What engine do you have?

@g-t
If it is , I couldn’t find it .. I sprayed cleaner around the manifold to check for leaks , but as far as I could tell , there were none. And I have the 1.8l

If you are willing to do it and have 1ZZ-FE engine, this site might be helpful:

Does the stall happen when the weather is cold?

@yaser
The weather is pretty cold now

Change the fuel filter and then pressure test the fuel pump.
