Hello Scotty! I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla with 113,000 miles. I’m the second owner. I bought it in 2014. I’ve had virtually no problems with it until recently I started to have a rattling noise on cold starts. The rattle only lasts about for two seconds. I did some research and found it could be a problem with the vvti. There was TPSB but my car doesn’t qualify anymore. Is this a serious problem that o should fix right away? If so what should I expect to pay?
If the problem is the vvti, live with it since it cost lots of money to fix it correctly.
Can I continue driving it like that? Will it eventually need repairs?
Yes, you can drive it till it makes noise when running at operating temperature, then it needs to be repaired.
Hi,
dont want to capture an old threat but i would be interested in what would happen in worst case when you dont repair the vvti?
And about how much money are we talking in case someone would decide for a repair when its steady rattling?
Before i got my Toyota Avensis i looked at one of the two available Toyota Venza in germany and that one had this rattling noise at a cold start, thats why i would be interested to know in case i would have chosen that Venza.
