{blackemo}:easymoney: 20k markup and 299 for Scotty’s famous nitrogen for the tires. 2022 Camry TRD msrp is about 35k. $56247 is door price. How do I post a picture of the actual door sticker?
I would never replace a working OEM water pump with an aftermarket one "preventively". That story is all too common. Same goes for many other parts.
@mmj Scotty covered that after answering this question.
I know. That's why I commented.
That's why they are called stealerships. They know no shame. Since they charge $299 to fill tires with nitrogen, and the air around is is already about 80% nitrogen, do they charge $239 to fill tires with ordinary air? It would not surprise me at all if that were the case.
You can upload the picture to a file sharing site and post the link here.
It is your choice to deal with these people, or not. We could spend all day posting stories about dealership nightmares. Do not give them your business.
Unfortunately , we don't always have that luxury. It's slim pickings right now.
True.
You always could count on those guys to kick you when your down.
Just Toyota of Dallas? It’s most Toyota dealerships.
$20,000 markup on a Camry - definitely ridiculous. I have heard of dealer markup on other vehicles like a Ford Bronco such that the new price was almost double the MSRP!!
And imagine this is all before add-ons, finance charges, dealer “paperwork” fees, etc. - adding more insult to injury.
These guys do not deserve business, and best to avoid them. Buyers also should not pay above sticker - go somewhere else instead. Some dealers have stuck to MSRP so they are not all playing this game.
One of these days, I would like to hear some stories from people who were treated well and fairly by a dealership, just for balance. I'm sure there are good, honest ones out there (somewhere), but since I never use them or buy new cars, I have no personal experience to share. Thanks.
Unfortunately, Doc, I don’t know anyone (friends, family, co-workers) who had a good experience at dealership. Even when things went smoothly, they were still charged too much for the service. Dealerships should be avoided at all costs.
Believe it or not, I have actually walked away from two local Ford Dealerships feeling that I was dealt with fairly on new purchases, but there's always some doubt. I'm well aware they're out there to make money, not friends.
Hey, my dealership customers are happy. BUT....I'm not a new car dealer. When you deal with a niche market, your customers pretty much know what the cost will be. Now, I have had people come in wanting a 1 of a kind custom car built for $15k. Those people left unhappy.
{black}:sweaty:
Market adjustment $20k.
*whistles*
Don't forget the Trucoat! ... or ZakTek or whatever.

I just travelled to a different state because when I went to the dealership to knock out the paperwork, they said "oh well thats the internet price." I said ok well what does that mean? Can you give me the out the door numbers? 2022 Limited 4 Runner is `49-53k depending on options and add ons... they posted it for 71K.... SEVENTY ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. This was in Northern Virginia. I went to PA they gave me 5K more for my trade and didn't add a market adjustment. I didnt even try to haggle. I was honestly waiting to figure out how they were screwing me but I am now a happy owner of a 4 Runner i paid a reasonable price for.
You got a fair deal then. I don't think it is easy to haggle right now, because they just have so few cars, and as you have seen, some places are going nuts adding on to the price.
Out of curiosity I looked up my local toyota dealer's website, they don't appear to be adding that massive extra amount to them here in Georgia, or at least my small town.
I wouldn't trust website prices. Until you sign on the dotted line, there's still plenty of opportunity for those parasites to bleed you dry.
@mmj Very true.
@Smack you can host the pic here: https://imgbb.com/ its free you dont have to sign up if it prompts you to create an account.
WOW! thats pretty steep. I actually inquired about an Avalon TRD and I believe it was only 47K and thats in PA. I wonder when Scottykilmer would get his hands on an Avalon TRD.
Here's a sample of what I've found on the net.
I just ordered a 2021 4runner as I want a gen 5 and it sounds like gen 6 is coming. I am paying full MSRP plus a "murphy" warranty which I argued against. That includes ceramic window tint (which I want), nitrogen (which I used Scotty's phrase "If it were an airplane flying high altitudes...), and a 10 year/100 thousand mile warranty on the drivetrain which I feel I don't I need because I am buying a gen 5 4runner. Other than that, no "market" adjustment. Dealership is located in SC.
My issue came however when they gave me their offer on my trade which was thousands below trade-in value. Thankfully, another dealership located in Ga is willing to buy my car at trade-in price even though I am not buying from them. And trade in price is well above what I paid for it 2 years ago.
So my gen5 Tacoma and this 4runner should last me into my 80's. Hopefully I never have to purchase another vehicle again for the rest of my life! 😎
I just feel bad for all of you in the states who have to deal with this markup BS. Here in Canada, it's against the law to sell cars over MSRP.
Maybe try looking for a used Camry TRD or see if you can get a good overall price (assuming the importing won't be too expensive) on a Canadian spec Camry TRD, assuming it's possible?
No. You are just plain wrong. The dealer IS NOT the manufacturer. The 'S' in MSRP stands for 'Suggested'.
The dealer is under no obligation to sell a car at this price, and can set the price to whatever he feels the market demands.
Not only that, but the MSRP DOES NOT INCLUDE any extras that the dealership adds to the vehicle, so you still end up paying thousands more.
