Hi Scotty!
I have a 1982 Toyota Pickup with rear wheel drive, a 22R (gas) engine, and a W-50 5-speed transmission. I bought the truck almost 15 years ago for $800 thinking I would drive it until it fell apart and get something else. After a few years, it hadn't begun to fall apart and the frame was good and solid, so I decided to restore it. I'm about 80-90% done with the restoration now. The odometer was broken when I bought the truck and stuck at 173k miles. Based on my driving habits, I estimate it has at least 300k miles and probably closer to 400k or more!
I rebuilt the engine last year after a crack in the radiator lead to a small head gasket leak. (I figured as long as I was getting the head rebuilt, I might as well take the opportunity to pull the engine, get it vatted and machined, and completely rebuild it.) Oh, and I fixed the odometer at that time and reset it to zero, so I know exactly how many miles I've put on it since rebuilding the engine. It's my daily driver now and it just turned over 22,000 this past weekend!
I was watching one of your recent videos this morning and you mentioned that the old style green coolant can be replaced with modern coolant and you suggested using Toyota pink. I have the green coolant in my truck now because, hey, it was good enough for it in 1982 so it should be okay now, right? So here's my question: Can I replace the green coolant in my 1982 Toyota Pickup with Toyota pink coolant, and is there a benefit in doing so?
Thanks,
Raymond Fast,

I would flush the old one and replace with the pink one. The new ones have longer life span (7 years/150k miles). You can use the green one without any issue as ling as you change it more often.
I have been using "whatever is on sale" in my '81 4x4 22R for thirty years now without any problems. I change my coolant every two years.
