i just had my toyota tacoma's plugs replaced. now, the exhaust pipe is black all the time, and when it starts up in the garage, the garage is polluted with unburned gas for a long time. gas mileage dropped from 24 to 18mpg. i did not need to have the plugs changed but wanted to keep the old gal running well
original owner of 2.4 liter four cyl 1996 tacoma. 5 spd - stick shift, with 379,000 miles.
is this a case of mechanic choosing wrong plugs (e.g v-6 cyl plugs / wrong spark gap or...air fuel mixture issue?
Wrong plugs, wrong gap? Is it running rough or missing?
no problems whatsoever. just felt it was time to change 'em out.
I have a 2005 Tacoma. I once had a problem right after I had non dealer/Toyota plugs installed. I didnt believe it at first but the Toyota dealer where my buddy is the sales manager, told me to always use Toyota/dealer spark plugs on these Tacomas. I had the Toyota plugs installed and the problem went away immedieately. I have no idea why but what the dealer told me seems to be true
