What's the best scan tool to check the dpf filter? I didn't want it to get clogged up again, it's a diesel manual transmission.
2015 Toyota Yaris diesel hatchback?
@dan might know
Welcome to the forum!
Fairly technical question for your first submission. I think most scan tools that are marketed for diesels and can provide live data (eg, Snap On) can check the exhaust pressure sensor and run a manual regen cycle if needed.
But as you know, the ECM should be doing automatic regen’s as needed. If the filter got clogged, that may point to a fairly complex problem. Might very well be beyond DIY service.
You didn’t say what you did to correct it the first time, or who you had to take it to (dealer?)
I would start by downloading a good service manual and see what troubleshooting steps you can do yourself. But more likely you will benefit from taking it to a good diesel shop (not a dealer or regular mechanic); they may be able to identify and rectify the problem for less than it would cost you for the tool.
Good luck!
Look at the Autel MK808 scanner. It can perform forced DPF Regeneration.

It's not a "bottom of the line" scanner. It's around $400.
Incidentally, Autel has started a pretty nifty online resource to help people diagnose car problems. Most of the submissions are from pros but diy guys can learn a lot from it.
It's called "Accufix" and it's a little different from the online resources presently out there.
You don't need to own an Autel scanner to access it. You can access it from the internet. You have to register an account just like you had to do here and it's also free.

They require a complete detailed description of how the problem was presented, confirmed, and diagnosed, including any wiring diagrams and scope and scanner data.
The people who submit repair procedures are compensated if their contribution is accepted by Autel for publishing.
Here's a video on what Accufix is and couple of examples of the detail required for a submitted repair to be accepted by the Autel team.
It's worth checking out if you have a few minutes.

I believe the MX808 (not MK) is what you want.
I got this e-mail from Autel North America on supported North American versions (Scotty’s Tool page as well as some member recommendations lists some that are NOT North American versions, buyer beware):
“The list of authorized diagnostic tablets [in North America] is short.
MX808
MX808TS
TS608
MS906BT
MS906TS
MS908 (includes the P, S, and S Pro)
Elite
MS909
MS919
Ultra
IM508
IM608
Anything that is MP or MK is not a US tool. Also the above tools can be sold by unAuthorized US dealers but will NOT receive warranty or support from Autel US. They will also not be able to bypass the security gateway in 2018+ Chrylser vehicles.“ BTW, this includes software updates (for the tool itself and for the different vehicle manufacturers) the first time you turn on the tablet after purchasing it, so it’s important to get a region-supported tool.
To avoid yourself potential headache if you buy Autel, just stick to the official recognized North American models and buy from their authorized dealer list, to avoid getting a counterfeit unit or even a unit that works initially buy months later fails - and now you are stuck sending back to China and dealing with their customer service (on your dime potentially).
That's confusing. Autel advertises their MK models on their site for sale in the USA (no mention of "not supported in the USA")

Their Authorized dealers sell MK model scanners in the USA with claims of "support and free updates" for 1 year

@daywalker Please don't misunderstand my point
.
You're a trusted forum member and I have no doubt that you received that email
.
I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around why Autel is advertising MK scanners on their site for sale in America, and their Authorized Dealers are even still selling the older Autel MK808 scanners while the company is sending out emails telling people in America not to buy them

@jack62 Which authorized dealers are we talking about?
Here is Autel’s authorized dealer list in North America:
https://www.auteltech.com/c/www/wheretobuy.jhtml
From that list, I personally buy my Autel tools from aeswave.com and they have been great to work with. They also don’t carry the MaxiCom MK808; however, they carry the MaxiCheck MX808. And like I said, the Autel MaxiCheck MX808 might be the equivalent of the MaxiCom MK808 - one can always ask the authorized dealer, but aeswave.com does carry the MX808.
If one is interested in the MaxiCom MK808, it is best to check with those authorized dealers if they carry it. If they don’t carry it and the MaxiCheck MX808 (North American supported) is the equivalent of the MK808, it’s really a moot point.
