2008 Silverado tpms light on

Hi

2008 silverado, 65,000 miles, 5.3, original owner. Today I drove my truck on a 70 mile trip and actually saw the tire monitor service light come on. I had checked all pressures yesterday and the display panel showed all four tire pressures at around 39 psi..  Now the display showed lines for the front tires and 38 psi for the rears.

My foxwell scanner shows low battery for the front tires.....and 149 psi.! So, both front tpms batteries died at the same time? I just find that odd. Reset did not work, nor did deflating tires and re-filling. So it's just the sensor batteries?

Also, I'm learning how to use the scanner and don't understand all these numerous codes, engine, tranny, O2 sensors, evap., etc.,  that show up under "other" codes. Normal scan shows no codes, check engine light is not on, and I can't clear these codes....and....truck runs great....so what gives?

I do my own work.

Thanks,

John

Yup...the batteries are dead in the sensors. I'm surprised they lasted this long if you've never changed them.

Usually I just say live with it and check the tires via a manual gauge if you have pressure concerns. Replacing all 4 TPMS sensors with new ones will cost a small fortune.

well, thanks for your comment, but, 4 new sensors don't cost a small fortune....

New OEM stem mounted units run $67/ea from Advance Auto Parts. I strongly recommend using OEM replacements on it. Hey, a few hundred bucks is a lot of money to most people when you are talking about non-essential parts. But to each his own.

exactly..to each his own.....4 new gm sensors, $35 total. rock auto, ebay...on the way....I didn't ask for cost opinions.....

I don't like illuminated warning lights on my instrument cluster either.

Wow. Just wow. {black}

OEM is $44 per sensor on Rockauto. Beware of counterfeit parts on eBay. Then you'll need to have them installed (dismount all tires). Then you'll need to progam the computer. (requres special separate tool for my GM). It may be cheaper to just let the tire shop source the sensors and do it all.

thanks...i mount and balance my own tires....I've used sensors on ebay before as I damaged one a few years ago replacing tires, lesson learned.....the relearn mode worked on the replacement sensor.

lucky you.
Is the eBay sensor genuine GM? Is it still working? If you don't mind, do you still have a link?

post the codes

I quit counting after about 20 showed up. The codes only show up under a "other" scan, or a " module" scan. They do not show up if just doing a diagnostic scan. I/M readiness is ok, no engine light, truck runs great.
I bought the truck new, has about 62,000 miles.
No individual sensor shows out-of-range. I'm tying to understand what to make of my scanner displaying these.

well I can't make anything of them either, without seeing them.

ok...fuel pump module..quick scan....read codes...0191, 0231, 0232, 023F, 0562, 0603, 0625, 2534, 2635..all"P"....will not erase..
engine module and trans module all say passed, no faults....so they erased....but not yesterday after running truck as these modules had almost as many codes as the fuel pump.
....there's nothing wrong with the fuel pump.....or engine, or tranny......no MIL....
FOXWELL Pro scanner......

It looks to me like your have electrical problems.

Load test the battery & alternator.

Check battery clamps, cables, terminals, and grounds.

the fuel pump ones are all electric circuit problems: 0191, 0231, 0232, 023F, 2635

These are also electric:

P0562 indicates that the system voltage is below 10 volts for a solid minute.

P0603 Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error:

"When you disconnect your battery this memory is erased and the computer goes into "dumb" mode as it is using the built in parameters to run the engine"

P0625 is a failed generator field circuit (this is what controls your alternator output)

Possible Causes

  • Burnt fusible link
  • Blown fuse
  • Open or shorted generator field control circuit
  • Defective PCM
  • A programming error in PCM

P2534 - Ignition Switch Run/Start Position Circuit Low

yep....i understand....but these codes are not showing up in a normal scan. No check engine light. I/M readiness pass, alternator shows normal charge voltage...
The battery, although charged, might not pass a test....I know today's electronics need the battery to be at a certain level but didn't think it could cause this many "hidden " codes......test tomorrow....

if they're not "normal" , then what are they? ... historical perhaps?

My bro has a Silverado and he had an issue with multiple trouble codes from multiple systems. New battery fixed it.

well...that's what I've tried to explain and ask about my foxwell scanner. Read everything I've posted. If I just do an OBD scan, no codes show up. But if I do an individual module scan, It'll show maybe 9 faults for fuel pump module....maybe 8 faults for tranny....maybe 6 for engine.....then I can
click on the module and get the individual "P" codes.....like I said, I'm in the learning process with this scanner. My older actron scanner shows no codes .
My original question isn't what do the individual codes mean, I can look those up, ....it's what is my scanner trying to tell me with all these codes in some of these modules?
