opinions on driving a Toyota Highlander fully loaded

Hello everyone, I use 2006 hybrid Toyota highlander (3 row seat). I have never drive with full load of passengers since acquired but I did some days back. The car picked up and accelerated on motion very well.  But it does change transmission to high gear point, viz 5 to 4 or 4 to 3 as compared to non hybrid highlander I drive when you intends to overtake or speed pass another vehicle.

Why and/or as anyone experienced this? Best wishes to all.

A note: The car has a CVT TRANSMISSION.

CVT's try to compensate for better fuel economy so they shift up fast. I do the same thing in my car with a manual and I can easy get 30 miles to the gallon
