Transmission/Engine shudder under load

Hello I own a 2012 Toyota Fortuner, about 140k kilometers automatic transmission. Recently bought it from another seller, and all they stated was the suspension needed work. I ride the car around and there is a shudder every time the car is under load, or giving it gas from a stop. I think it might be the transmission fluid, or maybe the engine mounts. There is about 1.5inch give when the engine is shifted from drive to reverse and back. Might also be the transmission fluid since there is transmission slipping, and jerky shifts from park to drive and reverse. I really dont know. Any help would be much appreciated sir. Thanks!

It may be your torque converter having problems. I would take it to a good independent mechanic and have them check it out and see what they say.

That sure sounds like a problem with the engine mounts, 1.5 inches is about 1 inch too much. Has the trans fluid been checked for level and condition? It would be a good idea to do a drain and refill, change filter if there is one, just as normal maintenance.

No codes, no scanner info?

there is a dip stick for the transmission fluid, and i checked when the car was idling, it was still pink. Should I still change it? is the dipstick reliable?

1.5 inches of movement is more than likely the engine mounts....I'd change all of them. You don't know when or if the trans fluid was ever drained an filled. At 140k km = 86991 miles; my guess the fluid is trash and that's a good place to start. See if there's improvement in shifting etc and then go from there.

The dipstick is reliable, if you follow directions - some manufacturers require the engine to be warm, and running in gear, other dispsticks are designed for other checking requirements. As far as the ATF being pink - just like with engine oil, changing it BEFORE it degrades is what you want to do for max life.

i had a similar shudder in the torque converter in my ford e 150 van. i put in some" Dr. Tranny Fix" for $10 and it went away.
