Hey scotty I have a 02 ford escape with 190,162 miles on it I recently did a transmission fluid change and now she starting to slip a little I checked the dipstick and I think it needs to be more thicker, any suggestions? Or did I screw my transmission?

Oh I used Valvoline transmission fluid 4qts she shifts fine but when 3rd gear approaches rpm doesn't move

YOU didn't screw it. The transmission was already on its last leg, and barely hanging on. You can try some Lucas transmission fix to try and squeeze a few more months out of it, but it's probably time for a new car.

How is it on its last legs? There's no metal specs in the fluid or odd noises no leaks no burnt smell she shifts perfect until 3rd gear. Is it because of little to no friction?

The friction plates are worn out.

Is the fluid on the dipstick suppose to drip like water? I think it's lack of friction I'll try some thickener like lucas

This the first time I changed it by the way

If you didn't change your transmission fluid for 190,000 miles, your trans is not going to last much longer, no matter what you put in it.

Sorry you don't like the truth, Leo.

She shifts fine without any additive yet I'm going to pick up some lucas the fluid is too watery

The friction caused by old fluid made your transmission run fine, you changed it and the new fluid does not have that much friction and you see the slippage. Drain a quarter of ATF and add Lucas transmission additive and pray it works, otherwise, just live with it, it does not worth putting money in it.

Yeah this answer sounds more logic to me and makes sense I'm on my way to pick up some lucas thanks man

You're welcome. Scotty says after adding the Lucas, drive couple hundred miles on the highway and see what happens. Keep us posted.

Just put half bottle of that lucas drove it for a bit she shifts fine I flored her rpm didn't go pass 3. Also third gear hits around 40mph I'll just continue cautiously until it goes out completely.

Quick update couple days later... She shifts smooth like butter no slipping no hard shifts like new I'm amazed and I think I over exaggerated alil bit I'm not changing the trans fluid ever again lol thanks guys for all y'all help!!

Thanks for the update!

Everyone is so quick to trash stuff. No wonder there's so much trash around. If a car makes it to 200,000 miles I would consider a rebuild or replacement. You could buy a used car with 50,000 miles on it and lose the tranny or the engine within the next 10,000 miles. But, it's your choice.

have you ever installed a rebuild?
