Can someone please explain why the owners manual for my 2016 2.5L Ford Escape SE ATF capacity says 9qt but every video I watch for my make and model they’re using 4 or 5qt only.

When you drain what's in the pan there's still a lot of fluid left in the torque converter. If you do 3 drain and fills, driving around for a while between times, you'll wind up replacing about 90% of the old fluid.

put in 4 and see what that dipstick tells you
