I have a 2013 Ford Edge 3.5L V6. It has 150k miles on it and runs like a champ. It doesn't burn oil and shifts very smooth and very responsive. Lately I've noticed something strange, every time I switch gears, as in park to reverse, or to drive, or any gear that isn't neutral or park, it makes a clunk, but you don't feel any thump or the car move, it just makes a clunk. Does anyone have an idea why it's doing that? It doesn't slip and I change the transmission fluid every 50k miles
Your CV joints or your motor mounts are worn and need to be replaced. Check with a mechanic before buying any parts.
That makes sense because when it's shifting gears down the road you don't even feel it. It only does it when you engage reverse or drive from park or neutral. I can see motor mount since at idle you do feel a very slight vibration
Then I would replace the motor mounts.
Well 150k, could also be some wear in your transaxle. Do the motor mount check with someone to see if its that first. Pop the hood, have your wife get in, start the car and put the ebrake on, then step on the brake and shift from drive back to reverse with you listening under the hood. Also note if the engine moves a lot in the process, then its probably a bad mount,
