Transmission runnaround or legit shortage issue?

Heya Scotty, I inherited a 2013 Ford Explorer SportTrack Adrenalin package. An unscrupulous salesperson took advantage of my fathers dementia and sold it to him to pull his farm trailer. Needless to say he blew the transmission on it with under 50,000 KM on the unit and it sat in the garage until he passed.

I took it to a local transmission shop and that's where its been sitting for the past 2 and half months. Last update they gave me is that there is no ETA on the repair due to the fact that ford is back ordered almost 180,000 valve bodies for the transmission.

Is there any way to find out if this is true or if they are just pulling my leg to hit me with a storage charge on top of the work when they come back with it completed who knows how long from now?

Would you suggest trying to find a used transmission and throwing it in there and just selling it? Its got low mileage so and would be fun to drive with the sport suspension but if if the rest of the drivetrain was abused as badly as that transmission was would the best bet be to get rid of it before the rear diff goes as well?

Thanks

This.

A broken transmission within 50,000 kms does not bode well for the rest of the vehicle.

Good advice from @itwt.  I can have a rebuilt trans for just about any vehicle delivered in about three days.  With under 50K kms, it would be worth it to me to get it back in shape.  Your call.
