Trip Safety - P0622

I’m a student and pretty inexperienced with cars, so please go easy on me. I’m just trying to figure this out. I’ve talked to two mechanics, one is a relative and the other is an independent mechanic who said it was fine before. I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan with 234,542 miles.

I took it to the dealer for an inspection and they found a stored P0622 code (Generator F terminal circuit) currently tests at a 14.11V a very small oil leak from the oil cooler tank, dark transmission fluid, and said it also needs a shifter software update. They quoted me $2,750, which is more than the car is worth.

I need to make a trip to Florida with other people soon, and I’m wondering if there’s any chance the issue is just the alternator needing replacement.

I’m considering going to AutoZone, Napa, O’Reilly’s, or Advance Auto to buy an alternator and have my mechanic from before install it if he has time.

Is it safe enough to make it there and back for a week?

I am trying to find alternative options to get there and am running out of luck.

A defective alternator is only one of many possible causes of this trouble code. So if that's not the cause, then replacing a good alternator will not fix the issue.

Nope. You could end up stranded.

@imperator I will take a look into this thank you for the link.
