I have a 2016 Subaru Impreza with automatic transmission and about 68,000 miles on it. My question/issue is that sometimes when I'm trying to turn the car off, I can't turn the key all the way to turn off the car. It gets stuck and all I can do is turn the engine off, but not the whole car. Sometimes I can wiggle the key back and forth (and up and down slightly) to get it to turn off completely, but usually, I have to turn the key the other way and re-start the engine, and then put the car back in drive to briefly move the car, then put the car back in park, and turn the key again. That usually works, and sometimes, I can kind of "feel" the difference in the car being put into park slightly differently, so I can tell if it's going to work this time, but I'm concerned because this happens somewhat regularly (but not all the time), but I have no idea if it's a big problem, or an easy fix. I'm not sure what other information you may need to give me an answer, but if anyone could give me some advice or point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated since I love this car and want to keep it running nicely.
Thanks.
A fairly common problem with late-model Subarus that have real keys is failure of the interlock between the shifter and lock cylinder. A friend had that happen on a 2017 Outback. To fix it the entire shifter assembly has to be replaced.
