So I’m in the market to buy a new truck soon but I’m torn between a Tundra TRD Off-road double cab and a Silverado Trailboss. I pretty much prefer everything about the Trailboss and it has everything I want in a truck (especially the crew cab with a 6.5ft bed) but I know they’re not as reliable as the Tundras, which is a big thing for me because I plan on keeping it for as long as I can and I live in northern Ontario, Canada where there’s lots of salt on the roads. I know the Tundra’s are outdated but that doesn’t bother me much. I can also get the Trailboss for about $7k CAD cheaper.
Which truck would you guys pick, and why?
Tundra TRD the crewmax variant is that what you are looking for? The Tacoma and Tundra have so many trim levels just get the best one you can find the Chevy isn't a competitor when it comes to quality, value, and reliability. You might consider leasing the Chevy if you like it so much but a Tundra should do the trick as well.
Congrats on getting to 2,500!
Thanks!
Get the Tundra.
Definitely the Tundra. It will last you much longer, and there will be less repairs.
Definitely go for the Tundra, because that is a proven platform that will last a very long time and while no vehicle is going to be perfect it will give you less headache and issues than the Silverado. GM quality has just taken a dive over the years.
TRD Pro Tundra all the way, not even a glance back. So much better quality, holds its value, and a better all around truck in every way that actually matters.
As a former Tundra (2014) owner, I agree, yeah, Tundra.
But for a contrarian take: you said Northern Ontario. How northern? If you are in a rural area, you may find GM and Ford have better local dealer networks than Toyota (Ram probably in between). I live in Dallas-Fort Worth, where we have Toyota dealers all over the place, and so Tundras are extremely popular. But when I go out to West Texas, I see Ford and Chevy almost exclusively.
So, yeah, Tundra is probably better, but it’s not perfect and when things break you have to have someone close by who can service it.
Luckily where I live, I have both a Chevy and Toyota dealer near by so getting them serviced won't be an issue. I agree, there's lots about the Tundra that isn't perfect but it's a small price to pay considering the reliability that comes with them. Thanks for the input!
The tundra is better because they hold up better over time and have better resale value- even when they are 20 years old like scotty said, they can still sell for like 7 grand. The silverado may be $7000 cheaper, but I also think it will have $7000 less value when your done with the truck and try to resell it. I think you should wait until June of this year and get a brand new redesigned tundra. It makes me feel like a bad person telling you what to get with your money, so I say look at consumer reviews on both and analyze your criteria for a truck and get one based on what fits your criteria best. Good luck, man.
That's true. The Silverado may be cheaper up front but might cost me more in the long run. Is it confirmed that the new Tundra will be out this year though? I've thought about that a lot but I'm a bit skeptical buying the first model year of a new generation truck. I'm sure it will still be a very reliable truck considering they have had plenty of time to perfect it. I've also heard that they might be getting rid of their 5.7 for a twin-turbo V6, which I wouldn't be a fan of. I wouldn't have a problem buying the current generation Tundra since it's proven to be bulletproof, but I would still consider the new generation if it actually does come out this year. Thanks!
Looks like I’ll most likely be going with the Tundra, thanks guys!
