US shocks on JDM cars

Hi SCOTTY and all fellow wrenchers!!!!!

I am from the Republic of Palau. I'm not a mechanic but I know enough about cars and car parts to know if someone is trying to cheat me out of my hard earned money.

I have a 2001 Honda Odyssey(JDM), 4-Speed automatic with manual mode, AWD, with 209,188km, roughly 130,000 miles on the clock. Up until now, I've been only changing fluids regularly and replaced a part here and there. It's been the best workhorse I've had since I ordered it from Japan 6 years ago. What it now needs is a new set of shocks and struts. The parts garage here wants to charge me $250.00 per piece. I need a set of 4 and I'm not about to fork out $1000.00 for it and that's without the cost of labor. I have found a set on Amazon for $194.00. But I don't know if it would fit. See the numbers below.

VIN: LA-RA71065008

Also, I've checked Japan for parts. They do have them, but the shipping costs an arm and a leg. About 3/4 of what that garage wants to charge me.

I want to buy US shock absorbers from Amazon, but I just don't know if I should do it. Many online parts stores from USA aren't sure either and don't want to send me something that might not fit.

HELP!!!

THANK YOU!!!

JORDY

Try to contact KYB & ask them the compatible part number/s for your vehicle. Then order the matching parts which cost the least to ship.

I wouldn’t buy the cheapest shocks you can find on Amazon, or you may be on the lookout for a new set, soon..

All the best!

Thank you!! I will check today

If you want to save money you could always buy used ones.

You're probably overthinking it. Chances are, shocks for a US Honda are the same as the Japanese versions.

I have the backwards situation, where I bought KYB shocks that are used for JDM Corollas and out them on my US Corolla, no problem at all.

To add to that, I have a '95 Accord, a "General" one, not Japan or US.
I check the parts on Partsouq.com and compare the alternative part numbers on Rockauto. Every single part is the same until now. If it fits on a '95 US model, it also fits on mine.
Like I said, maybe you're overthinking it.

Hey hey!!!!
Yeah, I do tend to overthink on some things, especially cars. But, ok, I will look them up again.

Thanks for the input.
