Hello Scotty,
I'm looking to purchase a used 2014 honda cr-v With LX trim. With a little over 85k miles from a local dealership for $18,990.00. Is that a good year for the cr-v and is the cr-v easy to work on.
Thank You
Considering the price of 2022 model year, I would pass.
I wouldn't advise buying a vehicle from the dealership and buy it from a private owner. That year is actually the last year they used automatics before they switched to CVTs in 2015.
I sometimes forget how crazy the used car market is right now til I see posts like this. That's crazy money for a 8 year old 85k miles, even on a Honda... I would also recommend private seller if possible.
Pass
If you have the "time" to look, go private. Always look for good documented service history and overall condition on how the person took care of the car. If promising, take it to a reliable local mechanic for inspection. Case in point, I bought a 2006 Honda element 3 months ago with 170k on it for $4000. It was 1 family owned and had a pile of maintenance records. It had the normal wear/tear and the under carriage was very clean with hardly any rust. I already have 176k on it and she operates perfectly. Took me about 2 months of FB marketplace and Craigslist searching BUT decent cars can be found with patience. Problem with cars from the Stealerships is "zero" history and they could be from the auctions. Also always do YOUR OWN AutoCheck report on a car you consider. Worth to understand wants been documented.
That price is absolutely insane, shop around! These days plan on searching for atleast a year until something decent pops up.
It took me looking daily from 2019-2021 & found nothing but scams. I honestly would have passed on the truck I settled on had I known just how much nonsense was WELL hidden. Drove it less than a week before the starter cooked, replaced that & its been one failure after another since. Been on foot since October & it's slowly driving me insane with the subzero temps😄
The 2022 cr-v LX starts at $26,400 msrp so no way I would think paying almost $19k for a used 2014 model would be worth it.
