I live in the UK which used car would you recommend?

Well one that you can afford and one that people can fix readily. I was in London recently and people are beginning to buy Toyotas. I met taxi cab, drivers and Toyotas. If they can fix them in your area I'd get a Toyota

Toyota Corolla/Auris and Honda Civic are great options. It's up to you whether you want petrol, diesel, or hybrid.
