I'm in the market for buying a used Rav 4. I already have one but on its' last legs. I also have 2007 RAV 4. I love RAV4s. The 2007 burns oil. The 2002's engine pressure is blowing out my radiator. I replaced the radiator twice already. The 2007 is immaculate and bought from a second owner.
I bought the cars a few years ago by tire kicking and opening up the hood expecting the motor to say "hello".
Now that I'm studying Scotty's videso, I'm armed with knowledge to see if I'm being ripped off on the car's condition.
My obstacle is the selling price of a used car from a private owner?
I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
How do I know if a seller is overcharging their price to me?
Is there a video that addresses this topic?
Here's a link that will show you what dealers are charging for those: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/all-cars/toyota/rav4/berkeley-ca?endYear=2012&isNewSearch=true&startYear=2009&zip=94709
Note that these are at least 20-30% more than you should pay for a private sale. On the other hand, they are probably look good with no major dents or bad paint, and mostly in decent running condition.
There are MANY videos on buying a used car - here are some of Scotty's

You might also try a site like kbb.com (Kelley Blue Book). You can taylor a vehicle that meets the specs of the one you're looking at and get values for private party, dealer, and trade-in value with a range of "fair prices" noted for your specific area. Per Scotty, sites like that tend to inflate values to begin with so if what you're looking at is higher than that it's probably way too much.
