I work at a used car dealership. We have a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic with the 1.4 turbo and a 6-speed manual. It actually drives quite well and is easy to drive, however on startup, it shudders and rattles quite violently on one condition....
If the transmission is NOT in gear. If the shifter is in neutral, it shakes when starting the engine. Doesn't shake at all for any other part of the drive. If you put it in first however, then push in the clutch and start the car, there is NO SHAKING. Not an ounce. This is really weird and I couldn't find any problem similar to it anywhere on the internet, so I'd really appreciate any help!
Well, when you push in the clutch and put in gear, you're disconnecting the transmission from the engine. So I would assume there's something wrong inside the transmission or perhaps the transmission mounts are worn and when it's connected with the clutch up instead of down that extra strain makes a shake
