[Solved] Warm-up starts (DTC)

No one can tell me low and high temperature on 2012 gmc terrain. One guy states under 120 then rev to over 166, (did it on a Prius), and that will count as warm-up start. Didn’t work for me. Would you happen to know doing what would count as a warm-up start? Thank you. Fixed my purge valve and trying to drive and clear stored code. Live in California. I understand 15/200 rule will pass my car. All data is complete, just the stored code needs clearing. Thank you in advance for any help.🙏🙏

I have no idea what you mean by a "warm-up start" unless it's something like this:

I also have no idea what a "15/200" rule is. (Not everyone in the rest of the country is familiar with the particulars of California's insanity rules.) Clearer information about the problem as well as the actual code might be helpful.

The warm-up CYCLES is something the scan diagnosis tool reads when plugged into the car port like the ones you used. It’s in the live data menu. In my crazy state the BAR, Bureau of Automotive Repair states;

1 Some 2010 vehicles do not support PDTC. Those without support for PDTC will not be subject to the PDTC check.

2 A vehicle with a PDTC stored will fail the PDTC check regardless of whether the MIL is commanded ON or OFF.

3 PDTC presence will be ignored if the vehicle has completed at least 15 warm-up cycles and been driven at least 200 miles since its OBD information was last cleared (as determined by Mode $01 PID $30 and $31).

4 BAR is aware of some vehicles that have trouble properly clearing certain PDTCs. BAR is working with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to ensure that known problematic vehicles are addressed by vehicle manufacturers. Until then, these codes will be ignored by BAR-OIS. For more information, see Permanent Diagnostic Trouble Code Vehicles of Interest.

5 Vehicle manufacturers have issued extended warranties, recalls and repair campaigns for some vehicles that have trouble properly clearing PDTCs. These vehicles are listed under Permanent Diagnostic Trouble Code Vehicles of Interest. When one of these vehicles fails for the PDTC, please refer the motorist to the dealer for covered repairs.

I replaced my purge valve. P0496 and it tripped code P0442. I also replaced my gas cap just in case. Code P0496 with lots of driving (265 miles)went away, code P0442 still hasn’t, so I wanted to do the warm-up starts to 15, I’m at 4 but don’t know how it did it. Whew 😰
