Hi Scotty
I saw your video a while ago you disliked the Kia Hybrid from 2011-2012. I think its the same as the Hyundai Sonata? I have a 2012 Sonata Hybrid and have liked it a lot. I wanted to make sure your viewers new Hyundai is fixing the engine issue for the 2.4 that was wearing prematurely. They sent a letter out at the beginning of the year. My local dealer just ordered a new engine from Hyundai and Hyundai is providing a free rental car. The car has 116,000 miles on it so I'm jazzed for the new engine! And yes the dealer is already trying to sale extra crap. They talked my wife into a new standard battery (not the hybrid battery) and I called and canceled that. They said the battery was weak. That's because its been sitting in their lot for 4 weeks waiting for Hyundai. I just replaced that batter a year ago so I'm sure its fine. Anyway its good news that Hyundai is doing the right thing!
Two things:
1. Is Hyundai really doing the right thing if a lawsuit pressured them into replacing the known defective engines in the first place?
2. I've heard reports that this new engine is only under warranty for one year or 12,000 miles. That's not very long. I certainly wouldn't trust it & certainly wouldn't get too excited about yet another unreliable Hyundai engine.
That’s good news. Although if I were you, I would sell the car and find a Honda or Toyota instead. You don’t know how much this new engine will last.
Fully agree.
Your ‘timer’ has only been reset, not eliminated. Didn’t Scotty say they were replacing faulty engines with junkyard sourced, also faulty engines??
Use the engine replacement as an excuse to wring the buyer out of additional $$$. Consider it as a lucky break. It’s the universe sending you signs to get out of it..
I would probably get rid of it and maybe try out a new Rav4 Prime (assuming you have 50 grand laying around because they are very expensive cars), Kia and Hyundai don't have the most trustworthy hybrid and electric powertrains.
Your vehicle is 2012 model year, and Hyundai is doing the ‘right thing’ 9 years later. Anyways at least you get a new engine, but I would still be weary and looking for a potential replacement vehicle especially as that hybrid accumulates more miles and parts of the hybrid system need replacing (can get very expensive).
