I have a 1999 RAV4. Recently the steering wheel separated from the column. What is the most likely problem? I found a video showing how to replace the steering wheel but don't want to start the repair without the possible needed replacement parts.
A bit of info - one of the drivers of this car has been using the car to help get her into the car which puts a strain on the steering wheel.

Steering wheels are splined and held onto the shaft with a bolt. I'd have to assume that the bolt worked loose and permitted the wheel to pull off.
