I have an Acura el 1.7 which I drive only in the winter. The alternator died on me in the middle of winter season ordered an alternator on ebay trying to save a buck big mistake!!! I installed and it died after a month, never again.

Then I bought an alternator at a local auto parts store guaranteed for 3 years. It was -17 degress celsius when I installed it and I overtightened one of the bolts on the soft metal alternator housing trying to hurry the work so I don't get frostbite on my fingers. It held so I left it that way.

Everything seemed fine until the alternator belt became loose made a high pitch noise and the new battery I installed lost its charge. What can I do about the alternator bolt thread please help!!

Where on the alternator body are the stripped threads? Is it something like this? If so and there is access to both sides you may be able to put a longer bolt through there and secure it with a nut and lock washer.

replace the alternator

If it's a blind hole, get a Timesert kit and put a repair insert to it, or, drill it and tap it to the next biggest size bolt.

you would also have to drill the other piece the bolt goes through, and new alternators will never fit right again.

The hole in the alternator housing goes right through. i had to lift and remove the  front wheel to access the back of the alternator housingit from underneath Then I put a longer bolt through there and secured it with a nut and lock washer as you suggested thank so much Chuck well appreciated!!

Thanks for letting us know and glad it worked out!
