Why does Altima have a hard time starting after changing O2 sensor?

Hey Scotty,

I own a 2016 Nissan Altima 2.5SL with about 136,300 miles on it. I got a check engine light and went to O’Reilly’s to get it scanned. They informed me that an O2 sensor was bad(Bank 1, Sensor 1 upstream). I decided to tackle this job my self so when I got the O2 sensor it was the wrong one so I had to go back to O’Reilly’s and get the right one ordered. I had the better disconnected for two days waiting in part. After receiving part and replacing sensor and put everything back together. I fired the car up but it was idling really bad. Now it takes a few tries to start

Yoy need to do the idle relearn process. Search online and you find videos on how to do it.

Now it takes a few tries to start

This has nothing to do with O2 sensors. The computer ignores the O2 sensors until engine has warmed up.

See our FAQ for no start troubleshooting.

Next time, use your VIN to get the right parts.

I tried the Idle Relearn Process several times with no success. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, am I causing any damage by driving the car with idle problems?
