Which should i consider? All from same dealership

2012 Honda Accord w/ 104k miles - $9450

2008 Subaru Outback w/ 79k miles - $8450

2010 Subaru Impreza w/ 107 miles - $7450

Which engine/transmission in that Honda Accord?

I would go with the accord out of those but they are all pricy for what they are. I would try to find something from a private seller so you can get a better deal.

I love Ford F150's!!!!!! (;

What does this have to do with this question

All of them are overpriced but I would say Accord would be my first choice. If the Outback and Impreza were half the price of what they were asking, I would have also considered it but 10 grand is a joke.

I would go on craigslist<by owner and see if you can find better deals.

$7500 for the Accord. Only one I'd be interested in.

Unfortunately, the price of used cars has gone up 17% during the pandemic (about $1500-1800 on the listed cars). That said, right now the "fashion" is SUV's - if you want a deal, buy a sedan or non-convertible sporty car.

For trying to lower price of car... this is kinda long but it works for me and all my buddies so I assume it will for you too if you got the patience for it. Matthew's article is a good knowhow but this is my way that I go about it everytime. It works 90% of the time all the time lol

@Toyota_boy , first: see if there is anything you don't like about the car(s) at all. My personal pick would be the outback btw, could be a little paint scratch here, maybe something on the interior had a stain. Under the hood of the car and dealer wiped plastic, tear off the plastic cover and see if it's hella dirty. Anything at all. Inspect the thing with a fine tooth comb for anything that stands out to you at all. Then say what you think it should cost. Eg the outback: $8450 without tax and reg right? So add another $2k to that and the total cost is $10,450 without an extra sell on warrenty if it is pre-cert and whatnot. This is my method:

(Btw you don't have to follow this line by line or to a T.)

By this point the dealer should have your info. Phone, name and all that. Cause you have said you are interested in said car and took it for a test drive and the dealer is trying to butter you up. They are not your friend. It is a business transaction. Try to keep that in mind. After the drive,

Ask this :"Does this price include everything" and then the dealer would be something like "well yes, you get what you see" Then follow up with this "so including taxes, license and fees" Most likely dealer will say "no" so then you can retort "so it doesn't come with everything" Try to negotiate and see if you can bring out the general manager and not the sales guy. If they say "as is" then you are kinda stuck, but if they say "price is firm" then you got a chance.

Try to get them to bring out the paperwork for what they paid for the car. This is difficult to do and they will try to dodge the question or make up some excuses. Say then that you are not interested then because it's not within your budget, and they will most likely ask what you budget is, DO NOT ANSWER this question. It's a trick. They will try to access your credit here and they will say it's simply so they can gauge your finance and whether or not you need to go on payment plan, blah blah blah. You can choose whether or not to reveal your credit here though it is not necessary just yet, I personally do just cause it makes the process a little smoother but if you want to have a bit more pressure as a buyer then don't for a little bit, they will try to goad you to giving it to them but that is the first step of the buying process to them. If they got your credit then they will ask you to seal the deal, if you hold off on giving them your credit you can say "say that theoretically my credit is (x)" and have them run their numbers and what not. I would tell em the national average number of 700. They will again try to ask you about your real credit and you can be all like "what you don't trust me? Then why am I here trying to buy a car I can't afford" and then:

Tell em you have more than enough to buy said car but do not want to spend more for something you know is cheaper somewhere else. This is ment to be an insult but say it casually if you can as it is more thrown under the rug type of banter. Haggle the shit outta them. If they say they can't do anything more or they got another person to take a look then fine.

Here is when you get up to leave. And that's all part of the plan. If you can hold out for let's say two weeks Minimum... They will try to call you multiple times in this time, be sure to answer everytime since they would want your money more than you want the car. When you reach a number you are satisfied with then you can go and pick up whatever car you so choose. People have the impression that you can only negotiate with new cars at the dealership, but that's just wholly untrue.

And that's how you work a deal at a dealership. If it's outta your comfort zone to be an prick then this won't work either. Dealers tend to exert a lot of pressure You just have to stand up to it, cuz if you don't they'll just scam you out all your money.

I waited 1 month to pick up my new (used) 2019 Camry SE with 5k miles. They wanted 24k I waited till it was 20k for everything including the extra warrenty. Patience is key and I wish you luck haha. If by chance that the car actually goes outta stock no worries. Just move on to the next one or better yet a private seller who doesn't know much about cars.

This is why I hate negotiating on car prices with dealers. I’ve had much better lock with private sellers. But I think my next car (should be this year hopefully) will be through CarMax - no negotiation, but I understand you pay a premium and not for everyone. I just like piece of mind.

Yeah private sales go a lot easier, but most my friends like dealer cars cause they are supposedly more trustworthy?... Or something... They drag me along for being the only mechanic that they know of (I'm pretty easy to bribe with a good meal and alcohol lol) Never tried a carmax before. How much is said premium for that price of mind? Like +$2k from msrp?

The Accord will outlast the Subarus, however, that’s pricey with that mileage. The Impreza is a decent car if the head gasket was fixed and beware of the Outback as it could blow a head gasket at around 90K-100K miles. Have a trusty mechanic check out the Impreza. If it’s good, it can be a good car.

How might you suggest I counter the price and get it lower?

I’m not an expert at negotiating prices at dealerships, so I don’t know. Maybe this will help: https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/tips-for-negotiating-at-a-car-dealership

I would normally vote for the Honda Accord;  however, which engine/transmission is in the one you are considering?  If it’s the 3.5L V6 mated to the 5-speed Auto then it has cylinder deactivation (or what Honda calls VCM) which can potentially wear out/damage the engine over time.  That would be a dealbreaker for me, esp. if you plan to keep the vehicle for as long as possible and rack up the mileage well beyond 100,000 miles.
