Cars come and go with 5, 10, 15, 20+ years. Some we expect to go earlier. Some we expect to go longer.
What cars surprise you that they are still on the road as daily drivers?
Chrysler PT cruisers and Dodge/Plymouth neons, I still see them around and I have no idea how the majority of them keep going, being how crappy they were.
Come got think of it, I do see a ton of neons.
I think the PT Cruiser has a cult following. Perhaps adds to why they are still around.
I just looked up the PT Cruiser. It has the same platform as the Neon!!!
It figures, and they both came with those crappy 4 cylinder engines that Chrysler was putting in all of their smaller and compact cars at the time. One of my neighbors owns a 90s dodge neon, it's ugly, sounds awful and looks terrible, the once purple paint has almost completely faded away and the plastic interior is cracked in many different spots. But yet it keeps moving under it's own power, I don't when it's gonna blow up, but it's probably not too long now. But at this point you never know, it could keep going for a while, but I doubt it will.
I see a surprising number of Subarus around from the years where they suffered from near-certain head gasket failure. I know a guy who has one that was about 15 years old when the head gaskets started leaking and he dutifully spent thousands of dollars to have them replaced.
Once the head gasket is fixed, is it a done deal, or is it expect or break again?
There are supposed to be aftermarket gaskets that will hold up better than the originals. The original type would probably let loose in another 100K miles.
For certain engines in certain years Subaru used coated gaskets; the coating is what failed. There have been a few morons who replaced them OEM, but usually they were replaced with traditional uncoated gaskets, which fail at the same rate as other manufacturers gaskets.
Perfect argument for ARP head studs.
How long does it take a gasket to fail on a toyota or Honda?
1. Pontiac Aztek
2. Chevy HHR
3. Chrysler PT Cruiser
4. Chrysler 300
5. Dodge Neon
6. Pontiac Bonneville
I love seeing Azteks around. Probably the ugliest car ever to be created. But it has its charm. And now a cult following because of Breaking Bad.
I'm really not a fan. Lol.
Not that I would ever want one. Ahhahaha.
Here and there I still see a Golf II on a road. Rarely a Golf I or a Yugo. Yesterday a saw an old Zastava.
Bosnia?
I think in Bosnia these cars are more common
gremlins
corvairs
silhoettes
lumina's
dodge aspens
come to florida and travel back in automotive time!
Buick Rendezvous. Sadly, one was my first car. It died at 68,000 miles.
I watched a demolition derby at the local racetrack about three years ago. The winner was driving....a.... P T Cruiser.
Toyota Matrix
Don't be surprised if you see something like this. It seems someone imports them in U.S.

My ex girlfriend's grandparents had two (yes two) 67 Chevelle Malibu coupes that they'd bought new and kept running all these years later. I had the privaledge of working on both fo these cars, and happened to see one of them out running around just a few days ago. Just goes to show what love can do for a car.
Some cars I am surprise to see on the road:
Mazda Tribute / Ford Escape: These are all over the place. Many look torn up. Some look relatively good. But they all sound good and seem to run relatively well.
Isuzu Trooper / Acura SUV: This is the one that Acura rebadged a Trooper to sell a luxury SUV. They are still trucking along.
Dodge Caliper
Ford Bronco II (Seems to have been a huge resurgence in these; I'm not sure where people unearthed all of them from, but they are now everywhere by me.)
Dodge Roadtrek camper vans.
