What is a cheap OBD2 port scanner or scan tool that I could be to check out a used car and use in the future? Would a bluetooth scan tool be a good choice?
What are you trying to do with the scan tool? You need to figure that out first. Otherwise, for most people, a basic scan tool is all they need, and for that the Bluedriver is excellent (and works with your smart phone). It is about $100. I would buy direct from Bluedriver to make sure you are getting the latest firmware and not getting scammed (e.g. clones, etc).

And what is nice about the Bluetooth Driver is you can easily carry the OBDII dongle with you. However, it won’t scan every computer module on the vehicle so you won’t get all the information, but still good enough for most folks.
Seconded. I have an Ancel AD410 scanner that was recommended by Scotty (as a cheap tool). It's good for basic functions.
When I was at Scotty's house a few weeks ago when he did a video on my car (yeah, I know, Adam Baldwin told me I need to stop name dropping), we were discussing scan tools and he was very enthusiastic about the BlueDriver scan tool.
Being somewhat frustrated at the limitations of the Ancel after using it on my daughter's 2002 Solara, I ordered the BlueDriver from Amazon today, mainly because Scotty was so positive about it.
I want to use a scan tool to make sure there are no problems with the car I am checking out. It is a 2007 Lexus IS250 172k miles, the owner is in his early 20s, so I just want to make sure it is mechanically sound.
